About a year ago, I had the idea to try to put together all the bones in a whole dolphin skeleton. I think bones are the best, and I have always wanted to figure out how to pull this off! It is really early in the process, but here is what has happened so far:
After postmortem necropsy (an animal autopsy) on an adult female bottlenose dolphin this past summer at the FAU HBOI necropsy lab, bones were cleaned up and wrapped in cheesecloth before being buried underground for approximately 5 weeks. The soil was a dry and sandy one, and the cheesecloth gave room for the buggies to come help along the soft tissue decomposition/cleaning process!
